A little update. This one has been in the pot for 3 years now, and it’s not growing much – it is a ‘dwarf form’, so will it grow? It is leafing though, so I’m thinking about it in a pot in a month.
It’s growing happily enough, with fresh leaves coming through:
There’s a few problems with it though:
- the branch on the low right above has a knob from the trimming of the last tree… I could perhaps carve for a better taper?
- the bottom joint has 3 branches, one of which is not leafing (dead?), and which messes up the symmetry
- it’s rather thin in profile… all branches are in one plane
I’m thinking this cut might improve the style:
I’d also have to deal with the knob from the triple joint. Aluminium tape is getting some buzz lately as good for helping bark heal over… maybe I’ll try that.
