On a whim I popped into Plumpton nursery, and found a few plants I quite like. But I’m left with a real puzzle: what should I call this one?
- It didn’t come with a label showing the name, which makes this a non-question
- I was told it’s an Acmena, and then tracked it down as a Acmena Smithii
- Wikipedia tells me that’s now known as Syzygium smithii
- I already have a bonsai called Lilly Pilly, and I like having separate names to help me categorise, and to satisfy my preference for variety
Given all that, I’m very tempted to call it a Lilly Pilly Smithii. And you can’t stop me. So let it be done.

I’m hoping I can get this to work, although the long gap on the right with no branches worries me. Let’s hope it back-buds, or it’s going to get chopped.
