Fitting wobbly pots with KneadIt

Confession: I’ve been hasty at times in the past, and bought pots that don’t stand flat. It’s something easy to check in the store, but I can get carried away. And then I have wobbly pots. Put them on a flat surface, and they shake. I’ve stuck bits of wood to wedge them flat, but this is hard, and a reminder of a stupid purchase. Surely, I ask, this is something that can be fixed.

Don’t do this.

Attempt #1: Could I file back the ceramic?

Answer: No. There’s a lot of clay in these pots, and ceramic is really hard. I went at it for 10 minutes, and I managed a slight change with no discernable impact. Also, I suspect I’m lucky it didn’t break.

This is not the way.

It turns out there is a solution: KneadIt. This is an epoxy polymer that you knead together, shape to fit, and let it set. Kind of a buildable version of Araldite.

This comes in a tube about the size of a roll of coins. About $15 from Bunnings.
Avoid contact with skin. Spoiler: I didn’t, but I did wash it off quickly.

Turns out to be really simple to use. Cut desired amount and knead into a ball…

Fresh from the tube.
Rolled smoothish.
(This is where the skin contact came in.)

…then apply to shape.

Then let it set.

In the end, I didn’t get it quite right, so I filed one side down to sit flat.

Unlike ceramic, KneadIt is feasible to file.

The final result is visible but acceptable. Were I really worried, I believe I could paint it, if I could adequately match the other colours.

I hereby declare this: Good Enough!

Probably better if I just don’t buy wobbly pots, though.
