The Feathery Hop Bush looks great, with the flowers staying in place for… six months? But only the female flowers. Which means if I want more (mostly just for around the garden) I need cuttings, not seeds.
Spoiler: cuttings is a deeply mysterious art which I just cannot pull off. And I didn’t.
Step 1: take cuttings close to a node.
Step 2: dip in rooting hormone and into the soil (perlite in this case)
Step 3: Cover to keep in moisture and keep in good light but not direct sunlight.
Step 4: watch the slow inexorable descent into failure.
I don’t have pictures, but after a few months they were all blackened and mouldy. So I cut the experiment. I think I had too much moisture, but I haven’t been able to find anything about how much is right.
Deeply mysterious.
