Silver Birch: July 2024 catkins

The Silver Birch is my oldest tree, having been potted in… 2014 I think. It’s sorely in need of repotting, but in the meantime, I noticed this:

Silver Birch: July 2024 catkins
A catkin in the process of release.

Since they are clearly … ripe? mature?… I thought I’d take advantage of the opportunity.

Strictly speaking I should crush them to release the seeds, but they were so dry that was happening automatically.
There’s a couple of root pouches not doing anything.
In go the seeds, stir the dirt up, and they’re planted (or close enough).

I don’t know if these have been fertilized or not, and I’m not giving them the best start. Basically, I don’t mind what happens here. I’ll keep the pots watered for the winter, and we’ll see what happens come spring.
