Japanese Maple Cutting: August 2024 repotting

I haven’t done much of anything for this one – mostly I’m just surprised at the way it puts out new leaves every year, without actually growing. So time for a repotting, and this time using a perlite soil mix that I’m hopping will be more nourishing (see plenty of posts in the last 12 months).

Starting point, with the new seasons leaves about to start.
Carefully leveraging the soil mass out. Turns out I didn’t use any wiring.
Inspecting the soil, which I note is quite able to retain water – I think small pumice and scoria are doing the work there. So, it wasn’t a terrible mix.
Cleaning up the roots… pretty good for the size tree, except for the front one curling away to the left – that got clipped.
Laying in a new set of soil and fertilizer, and some ground cover.
I think there’s some wire just folded over lightly.

I carefully put the moss back in place, and we’re done.

Let’s see how this year goes.
