Senkaki Forest Trio

Another bonsai in need of an upgrade to the perlite soil mix.

I have some details of the starting point.

That bark has seen some mistreatment, which might be passed off as age.
I don’t know why this one has actually managed to maintain a moss covering. Do the maple leaves provide enough shade? Do my natives put out competing chemicals?
This is too much of a clump… I need to choose a leader and get rid of the rest.
This needs some cleanup. I’m not sure right now which are alive. Maybe the whole top segment goes?

Anyway, to work.

Carefully removing the surface moss for later reuse.
This lot was wired in place, and I eventually just cut the wires to get it all out.
That seems about right for a forest planting. I unpicked them, but I wonder if I should have just let it all be.

Repack the moss and done.

I don’t really have a vision for this lot, and there’s not much special here. But they have been on a journey since that 2017 course.

Looking back… boy, those were cheap seedlings they trained us with.
