Judas Tree: September 2024 planting

One of the dangers in walking the street is I might see a pretty tree. And take some seeds. And plant them. And then – wham! – it’s two years later I’m watering a couple dozen seedlings with no idea what to do with them.

Ooh, pretty. And ostentatious. But pretty.
Not large leaves, although in a bonsai that would probably be on the larger size.
Smooth bark, straight trunks.
A second one a little further along. They are a little shrub-like without a single trunk, but I’m sure that’s something that can be controlled.

Leaf close up.

As best I can tell, this is a Judas Tree – lavish pink flowers, heart shaped leaves, and smooth grey bark. This is bonsai-able, although to be honest I only checked that later.

Joink.

I’m guessing at how to germinate, but it’s not all that hard.

Take the pods.
Shell the pods.
Soak the seeds overnight.
Drain the seeds.
Plant the seeds
Wait.
