Rock Cotoneaster: May 2024 repotting

I know I just posted on these guys, but I convinced myself that the shallow bowls were preventing much growth. I was also worried that they were in a soil heavy mix prone to get waterlogged. This was not right.

Gathering together for the change. Those pots are not even 5 cm deep.
I spent too long looking for a banana for scale.
Then I thought: “Hey, I can measure things.”
I have actual numbers.
Official: these guys are small.

Looking at the records, they only germinated in December, so maybe the size is reasonable.

I like the trays + square pot combination that brings everything close… it makes me feel like there’s less waste while watering.
Looking closer at the soil I was using…

It’s a mix of compost plus perlite, stone and clay balls. I don’t know why I did that. But I didn’t want to mix up a new batch. So the replant is into a mix of this stuff plus a perlite mix. I’m watering down the compost, so to speak.

The bottom layer is new mix, and the top is the current mix. It still looks pretty… well, soil-like, but I’m confident it won’t get waterlogged.

And done. (Not actually oregano.)
