Lemon Myrtle “Stumpy”: September 2022 potting

The myrtles need repotting. It’s been 5 years, and they are showing less vigour than in previous years. My theory is that they are very root-bound.

See that big branch to the right. that’s why this is going to be Stumpy.
That’s not a good sign.
The rock ended up *very* firmly embedded.
It actually took me a while to realise this was a solid root covering, not tightly packed soil.
Unravelling the tangle.
So early on I put rocks at the bottom of pots to promote drainage. It worked well enough. Now I have rocks all the way down.
Working through the soil.
Nearly there.
That’s the big branch on the side. I ended up leaving a bit… we’ll see if it grows more.
Cleaned and ready.
I’d like to prune the side branches, but I’m nervous about leaving no leaves at all.
This is by far the highest girth to height ratio I have. Therefore: Stumpy.
