The Copper Beech doesn’t get much attention, because it doesn’t really seem to grow – it just buds, has leaves, loses the leaves, and repeats. Compare:


That’s 4 years of ‘growth’, and the changes are:
- I pruned the top two branches back
- the top left has grown an inch and put out two new buds
- a few branches have gotten maybe a little thicker
That’s a slow growing tree. I might try repotting in spring, and see if a different soil promotes more vigour.
But it’s also a little cramped in the center, so I thought I’d try using my recently acquired cut-paste to clean it up.
