Copper Beech: May 2023 maintenance

The Copper Beech doesn’t get much attention, because it doesn’t really seem to grow – it just buds, has leaves, loses the leaves, and repeats. Compare:

March 2019
May 2023

That’s 4 years of ‘growth’, and the changes are:

  • I pruned the top two branches back
  • the top left has grown an inch and put out two new buds
  • a few branches have gotten maybe a little thicker

That’s a slow growing tree. I might try repotting in spring, and see if a different soil promotes more vigour.

But it’s also a little cramped in the center, so I thought I’d try using my recently acquired cut-paste to clean it up.

When you’ve just bought a hammer, everything is a chance to use a nail.

Pasted
Site 3. I hope I smoothed that out.
Final. Candidate photos for ‘spot the changes’.
