Black Locust – 2019 Training

I purchased this from the Gardenologist in Gordon for $40 in April 2019. It was grown as a 6 foot standard but not sold. They warned me that the root stock was something vigorous, and would regrow with thorns. For me, the selling point is the big thick trunk, which is unusual in my plants.

Transporting tall trees tends towards travelling troubles.

Yes, that’s a tall tree.

If scaled down that might be an interesting bonsai.

I don’t really get standards. It’s a strange design for a plant.

I let it grow till October 2019, and then – chop chop.

I see no grafting attempts.

By this stage we had enough to identify this as a Black Locust.

Yup, this is going to be thorny.
