Azalea Shirazz: May 2022 Update

Catching up after some general neglect. This got repotted last August when winter winds knocked it over, and I’ve pretty much left it alone since then. It’s actually been pretty happy.

Happy = Lots of growth in all directions. But it’s losing the style a lot.

But that undergrowth is not good… time for some grooming.

New growth in all directions… the stuff on the left is the biggest concern.

I’m not seeing any thickening of branches. The wiring shows no signs of biting into the branches. Given the foliage is downright lush, that’s somewhat surprising to me.

Definitely should have weeded earlier.

Fortunately weeds are actually fairly easy to pull from the collection of rocks I use – much easier than weeding the actual garden.

Mostly I did weeding, and just a little bit of pruning. I could stand to be more rigorous about that.
No weeds

There’s a little bit of moss on the trunk… as we head into winter, let’s see if that can be encouraged to spread a bit.

I took out some stones to create space for the sand to not be washed over the side while watering.

Now lets see how the moss goes over the winter.

EDIT: a couple of weeks later I took this picture, which really isn’t all that different.

Update this post because it’s not worth a new one.
