Chinese Wisteria: April 2024 Cleaning

The Chinese Wisteria has been left alone for a while and was looking somewhat bedraggled. Time for a bit of cleanup.

The leaves got scorched in the hot spell in February (March?). But mostly it’s the oxalis in the ground cover that I’m complaining about.

So I got my garden tweezers to try and root it all out.

I’d been digging into the ground cover for five to ten minutes before this fellow decided to crawl out.
Cleaning complete, although I left the true ground cover to overflow the pot because I like the look.
Here’s the underside of the canopy. It’s a little thin as autumn draws on, but in full bloom it’s pretty solid.

I’m not really sure how to develop this as a bonsai. There doesn’t seem to be any inclination to backbud, so I’m stuck with these fairly long branches. And I’m not clear what the step is for getting from pinnated leaf to new branches. I’m mostly in a holding pattern while it decides if it’s going to grow any more.
