Black Locust: December 2022 update

3 months since this was potted. This one is the most thriving from all the September work… it’s been barely slowed by the change. Also, this is my biggest bonsai… a couple might be as tall, but none have this lushness.

First, some early December maintenance:

December 10. Where to begin?

I found a reference model: a street in town has a bunch of fully grown black locusts.

Both of these are Black Locusts, in case you’re wondering. See the strong suckers being grown from the at the base.

Finally, some shots in the photo-booth in late December. Well, half in.

I mean, I could restrain the canopy. But do I want to?
I flagged before the idea of carving the top of the trunk more aggressively, so that the new top branch connects smoother. This view really supports that idea.

Here’s a couple of details of the trunk:

This was It was a hot day, so the leaves have folded up to protect themselves, and conserve water.
The nub of the trunk is really starting to bother me as I look at this pics.
