Miscellaneous: Prickly Pears

In this region of Victoria Prickly Pears run rampant. Some farms seem to have used them as hedges. In other places they are growing wild on rocky hillsides. They are extremely prickly – I once touched one once, and though I could not see the prickle, I had a splinter for days. But I had yet to see one fruit.

This is on the edge of a golf course. Do not play it if it lies here.
Well, there’s a close up of the fruit. But I thought I’d taken a bigger picture. I must have double compressed it.
