European Beech – September 2022 repotting

What do you do when you’ve got a slow growing, boring tree in a large pot it doesn’t justify? Repot it, of course.

The culprit:

May 2019.
September 2022. No noticeable growth in over 3 years.

Verdict: guilty.

Sentence: eviction.

Loosen the edges…
…and out it comes.
The mossy layer came off like a pancake.

As I thought, the root system just didn’t need all that space.

Only three major roots.
Past-Michael, this was just lazy.
Fixing that extra knob on the end.
No room for you.
Into the pot.

Salvaging the best of the old moss layer to produce a finished product:

I mean, it’s still a dull tree, but it’s better when with leaves.

I’m hoping the better soil mix will allow for more growth. But I may be dreaming.

Good luck, space cowboy.
