Water Gum: January 2023 water hole

I potted this one in September (4 months ago). Since then, half the leaves turned red, it didn’t put out any new leaves in the remaining Spring months, and I’ve generally been worrying about if it’s going to pull through. Which is background.

A few (2 or 3?) weeks ago, I put the pot in a shallow tray of water to help with the summer heat. And unlike the other trees, I left this one in, because the water was very shallow compared to the rest of the pot.

I haven’t cleaned up the tree recently for fear of disturbing a semi-dormant state.

And it turns out Water Gums love water. Who knew? This has really been busy since giving it water access.

I’m not sure when this stalk started growing, but I’m more interested in the fresh green leaves.
Actually, I should probably clean off the insects.
Growth!

I’m generally excited for the possibility of a smaller, denser, younger canopy, which will really make this tree pop.

Also, how are those cuttings going?

Cutting 1 is firewood
Cutting 2 has 5 leaves that are legit green, including a couple of new grown. So I assume there’s roots under there.
